Toronto -- I am sorry William Thorsell is "grief stricken" following damage to the ancient ossuary shipped to the ROM. I was not surprised at the damage, having seen the taped cardboard box used for shipping it in a Globe article the day before. I guess someone didn't notice that laughable wineglass fragile sticker on the side.
A museum official implies the matter was out of the ROM's hands, but I disagree. The ROM was a partner in this transaction, and should have taken steps to protect what it supposedly considers an important antiquity. I hope they'll learn something from this.
