Edmonton --
Danielle Hobday of Oakbank, Man., had two goals as Canada beat Finland 3-1 on Saturday to reclaim the gold medal at the world ringette championship. Edmonton's Megan Todd had the other goal for Canada, which lost 4-3 to Finland in overtime in the 2000 final. "We knew we could do it," said Toronto goalie Keely Brown, who was the player of the game for Canada. "It was great to have the Canadian fans behind us. If you get tired and the fans are behind you, the tired doesn't matter." Todd opened the scoring after a goalless first period with assists from Sarah Miller of Lively, Ont., and Kim Beach of Delta, B.C. In the bronze medal game, the United States defeated Sweden 10-3. Ringette is a Canadian game, invented in 1963 in North Bay, Ont. It is played by more than 24,600 participants in seven countries.
