Martin's shore-thing candidacy

Thirteen of 37 federal cabinet ministers and 106 of 169 Liberal MPs signed their names to Paul Martin's nomination papers. And it was not always easy collecting those signatures, filed this week as part of Mr. Martin's candidacy. Indeed, Quebec MP Nick Discepola had to be tracked down on a cruise ship in the Caribbean. Before he left on his holiday, Mr. Discepola forgot to hand in the paper that included his signature as well as those of about five other MPs. He had left it on his bedside table. Via ship-to-shore telephone, Mr. Discepola gave a detailed explanation to Martin officials about where to find the key to the house, and then, how to get to his bedroom to retrieve the papers.
