Business leaders fear growing rift with U.S.

TORONTO and OTTAWA -- Canadian business leaders are sounding the alarm that Ottawa's growing rift with Washington over Iraq may endanger economic ties between the two countries.Chief executive officers at a number of Canadian companies with U.S. operations said they fear that the flow of cross-border capital, goods and deals could be threatened in the event of war. Indeed, relations between the two countries could become so fragile at a time of heightened terrorist fears that at least one executive warned that the United States may build a "fortress" along its border and slow trade to a crawl.
