Too much self-esteem: the blight of modern times

Earlier this season on American Idol, 19-year-old contestants were dolled up like children dressed as hookers for Halloween. Sometimes they sang, but sometimes their caterwauling was earsplitting. When the latter occurred, the show's three judges, music professionals all, proffered their opinions: "You are screaming, not singing," they said, again and again.
