A shocking sentence

Equal protection of the law is the bedrock of justice. Yet a Saskatchewan judge has seen fit to deny this protection to a 12-year-old native girl who was sexually assaulted by a 26-year-old white man. The judge's reasoning? The girl was a previous victim of sexual abuse, and sex-abuse victims are known to show "unpredictable sexual behaviour," as a pediatrician testified in the case.
