Identity-theft case costs taxpayers in Alberta $540,400
EDMONTON -- A sophisticated identity theft involving a million-dollar land transfer, an aged Calgary woman, an Ontario casino and a ring of rogues has cost Alberta taxpayers $540,400.The province made the payment in February to return title of a million-dollar Calgary property to an 89-year-old woman who was the victim of a clever identity theft and fraud, The Canadian Press has learned.
