Ontario to beef up protection of historic buildings

The Ontario government is giving Toronto and other cities across the province long-sought powers to save heritage buildings from the wrecker's ball.Yesterday, provincial Culture Minister Madeleine Meilleur announced changes to the Ontario Heritage Act that would give municipalities the right to stop -- not just delay as they can now -- the demolition of heritage sites.
