Stephen Harper's bilingual version

The federal Conservative Party has been whistling past the subject of official bilingualism. The party's new website doesn't mention it as an issue. Last fall's tentative merger agreement between Progressive Conservative leader Peter MacKay and Canadian Alliance leader Stephen Harper endorsed "the equality of status" of English and French in "all institutions of the Parliament and the Government of Canada." However, when the two merging wings of the new Conservatives forged a common platform earlier this year, they did not specifically endorse Canada's existing official bilingualism policy.
