Telus acquires hotspot firm Spotnik

Telus Corp., Canada's second-largest phone company, has purchased Spotnik Mobile Inc., a fledgling hotspot provider. Hotspots are located in places such as coffee shops, hotel lobbies and airport lounges and give customers high-speed access to the Internet using Wi-Fi wireless technology. Vancouver-based Telus did not disclose how much it paid. In late 2002, Telus's venture arm invested $6-million in Toronto-based Spotnik.
