Halifax The Nova Scotia government released regulations Tuesday setting ventilation standards for smoking rooms and listing smoke-free places across the province. The regulations, implementing the Smoke-Free Places Act, provide a total ban on smoking anywhere there are youth under 19, including schools and school grounds. Also included on the list are hospitals and clinics, malls, theatres, taxis, community halls and sports and entertainment facilities. In workplaces, restaurants and bars, smoking must be restricted to an enclosed, separately ventilated smoking room that only adults may enter. The ban takes effect Jan. 1. Businesses intending to build smoking rooms will have time beyond the deadline to get the work done.
