Town may be conquered, but it's far from pacified
SAFWAN, IRAQ -- If anyone thought that the U.S. and British armies had undisputed control of any territory in southern Iraq, there was little evidence of it yesterday.I was among a group of journalists near the newly captured town of Safwan last night when British commanders suddenly ordered us to flee immediately to escape a threatened attack by Saddam Hussein loyalists armed with machine guns and grenade launchers.
