Hussein's sons ignored surrender order

WASHINGTON -- Saddam Hussein's sons failed to heed a blunt demand from U.S. forces to surrender, resisted with gunfire when a squad of U.S. troops climbed the stairs toward the brothers' fortified second-floor bunker and were then killed by overwhelming firepower -- including salvos of missiles -- that left their safe house a ruin.
