Iran's leader urges vigilantes to put down protests

Associated Press

Tehran, Iran — Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called Thursday for hard-line vigilantes to put down what he termed "riots" after two nights of protests against the clerical regime.

"I call on the pious and Hizbollahi guards (hard-line vigilantes) to intervene wherever they see riots," Mr. Khamenei said, according to state television and radio.
