Ottawa backs gay marriage

Ottawa — The federal government declared yesterday it will change the definition of marriage to include gays and lesbians. Prime Minister Jean Chrétien said Ottawa won't appeal recent court rulings in Ontario, B.C. and Quebec that all said banning gay and lesbian marriages is unconstitutional.
