Art in the war zone

In late October, The New York Times published what its foreign-desk photo editor described as one of the best war photographs from Iraq the newspaper has run. It shows a U.S. soldier crouching down just after arriving at the scene of the suicide bombing of the Red Cross headquarters in Baghdad. A dead body lies in the background. The soldier is looking back in terror.
