My voteRiding: Charlottetown On June 28 I plan to vote for the New Democratic Party candidate in the riding of Charlottetown. PEI has never elected a federal NDP member however did elect one provincial member a few years ago. Most Islanders vote either Liberal or Conservative because the NDP won't form the next government. In my riding there are four candidates in the running. The incumbent Liberal, a Conservative, a NDP and the first-time Greens. My plan is first of all to vote any thing but Liberal so this leaves me three to choose from. The Green Party here is supported by well known social-reformers who oppose every thing except GOD and the POPE. I'm not voting for dreamers and crackpots. The Conservative candidate returned to PEI from serving in an Ottawa political office just in time to run in the last election. He grew a beard to look older and placed second. This time he still doesn't impress me he would be a good member because he is a blind follower and not a leader. This leaves me with the NDP candidate. She is a family lawyer who is running in her fifth consecutive election. Last time she placed third but her vote-count is increasing. She and the Conservative candidate appeared on a TV political talk show together. The Conservative just repeated the party-line to each issue while she expressed her own ideas on how to improve the world. I like and respect the NDP candidate and believe she would be an excellent member of parliament. So that's why I'm voting NDP again on June 28. My prediction for June 28 is a Conservative minority government. Voters are fed-up with the Liberals but they don't quite trust the real intentions of the Conservative-Reform party. Therefore The Bloc and the NDP could play an important role in a new government so on June 28 every vote really does count. |
