The Fluffer

Country-boy Sean heads to Hollywood, rents a gay porn video, and falls head-over-heels for its hunky star - a certain Johnny Rebel. Keen to meet his idol up close and personal, Sean lands a gig in the biz - as a part-time cameraman and full-time "fluffer." A what? Well, you see, it turns out that male porn stars often require a bit of assistance, a little "fluffing", to get up for their repeatedly demanding roles. In the case of Mr. Rebel, things are further complicated by his only being "gay for pay" - off-camera, he's ostensibly straight. Apparently, all this is meant as an extended metaphor on sexual honesty - on the plight of the true romantic forced to love from an imposed distance. Nice try, but it plays like a low-rent version of Boogie Nights - that is, The Fluffer is fluff, and just about as tedious as the world it pretends to explore. - R.G.
